Amazonite
Despite its name, amazonite is not grand or awe-inspiring. In fact, it has little to do with the great Amazon River it’s named after. If anything, this mineral is the exact opposite of its namesake, being a rock of very little grandeur that has never been of any practical use to anyone. But amazonite does do one thing well, and that is being pretty. Coming in a range of undeniably lovely blue-green colors, it’s not pretty in a flashy kind of way. If anything, it’s quite unassuming, with none of the showy pizzaz of a gemstone. But while even our flashiest gems tend to have specimens that are rather blah, you’d have to work hard to find an ugly amazonite. In other words, this artless and humble mineral has a natural beauty that needs no artifice to enhance its charms. After all, why should we only value that which is extreme, ostentatious, expensive, or enhanced?
