Cat’s Eye
Picture a cat, ready to pounce, honing in on its prey with an unblinking stare. Now see only the cat’s eye, its pupil narrowed to a thin slit in the light. That’s pretty close to what you’ll see when you gaze into a polished piece of chrysoberyl. This strange similarity is owing to an effect called chatoyancy, where light is reflected off the stone in such a way as to give it a bright, thin line straight down the center of its surface. Add to that the fact that this mineral tends to come in the precise range of colors as a cat’s eye, from yellow to pale green, and it’s easy to see where cat’s eye got its name. It’s interesting to note that chrysoberyl is the third hardest gem as well. It’s all pretty impressive, and it carries an important message too: Now is the time to work toward your goal with hard, unblinking focus. Keep your eyes on the prize, then pounce when the time is right, and that thing you want so badly will be yours.
The Bottom Line
FOCUS
“Keep your eyes on the prize.”
