Heliotrope (Bloodstone)
What in your life are you be willing to suffer for? Heliotrope is a dark green and red silicate mineral known more commonly as bloodstone, owing to the fact that it looks like it’s been splattered with blood. Bits of hematite make it look this way, which is interesting, as the iron in hematite is also what makes our own blood red. No wonder this mineral has a long history of lore. In particular, early Christians associated it with the blood of Jesus and martyrs, linking it to a willingness to shed blood for the cause of good. While we can certainly hope we never need to spill literal blood in the name of a cause, there are times in all our lives when we must endure pain, sacrifice, or discomfort for our convictions. Some goals are simply worth suffering for. Heliotrope might even say that if you’re not willing to sacrifice for a goal, then why bother making it a goal at all? If heliotrope is popping up for you now, it’s time to ask yourself: How much discomfort am I willing to endure in order to get what I want out of life?
