Howlite
The good old-fashioned virtue of humility is one that, though not very common these days, can lead a person to a life of grace. And if grace through humility had a spokesperson, this lovely mineral would be it. It can be so silky and pure-looking that, when polished, many mistake it at a glance for marble. But that’s where the resemblance ends. Howlite has none of marble’s lore, majesty, or status; rather, it’s a soft, humble, plentiful mineral that was discovered less than two hundred years ago. Also, unlike marble, it’s very easy to dye, which means it’s often faked as other, more expensive rocks, most notably turquoise. Not only is this dishonest, but those who think howlite is perfect just as it is find it a real shame, for the deception destroys this stone’s own unique beauty. It might be a humble rock that’s not worth much on the market, but it has considerable grace. If howlite is showing up for you now, it might be to encourage you to cultivate grace in your own life, not by putting on airs or striving for status, but rather by embracing the purest version of your own humble self.
The Bottom Line
GRACE
“True grace comes from humility.”
