Jade

Jadeite and nephrite are two minerals so similar in appearance that for most of human history they were thought to be the same thing. We know better now, but still tend to lump them together and call them both jade. Either can be gorgeously green, but jadeite is rarer, more expensive, and comes in an especially vibrant shade known as “imperial green.” Nephrite, on the other hand, is tougher. Unbreakable as steel and used in ancient times to make axe heads, some even consider it the toughest mineral on Earth. Put all these qualities together, and no wonder jade is considered to be one of our most revered stones. In ancient China, it was even thought to be the embodiment of life energy itself. To this day, many around the world still consider jade an unusually powerful stone.
