Jasper
Jasper, you could say, is a little bit this, a little bit that, and a little bit neither. Some geologists say it’s an opaque variety of the mineral chalcedony, a form of quartz. Others say it’s so filled with impurities it should perhaps be classified as a rock rather than a mineral. Others feel strongly that it’s actually a type of sedimentary rock called chert. To confuse things further, some geologists refer to chert as flint, but very few would say that jasper is flint, or vice versa. So what, exactly, is jasper? The only thing everyone seems to agree on for sure is that it’s opaque and made of quartz. How exjasperating! And yet this confusion could be just the message this rock wishes to bring. After all, some of the best things in life are impossible to label or categorize, and a lot of problems are created when people are pressured to pick sides. Sometimes what’s best is having the courage to shrug and say, “Who knows?”
The Bottom Line
AMBIGUITY
“Sometimes there is no clear answer.”
One Or More Of These Messages Are For You
-
- You’re not going to get a straight answer on this one.
- It’s okay to not know how you feel, not have an opinion, and not take a side.
- You may not feel like you know who you are or what you should do right now. It’s perfectly fine to not have the answers, so try not to worry about it.
- Not everything can be neatly labeled or placed into a category.
- Like rocks, some of the best people are impossible to categorize too.
- It’s natural to go through periods where you’re betwixt and between. It’s even okay to live your whole life in a liminal space.
- The current situation you’re in may be hard to define, with no one agreeing what really happened or what’s going on. If so, try to simply accept that’s the case, without needing to change anything.
- Sometimes the best things come from the places in between.
