Jet

If ever there was a rock for goths, this would be it. Gemstones of jet form mysteriously out of the death and decomposition of lifeforms that sank deep into the ground millions of years ago. If you look closely enough at some specimens you can still see the echos of cell structures, like ghostly hauntings reminding us of what it once was. Add to that the fact that jet is deeply, richly, mysteriously black, and it’s no wonder we associate this rock with death! In Victorian times, it was even considered the official mourning stone, worn as a signal and symbol of grief after the loss of a loved one. Whether because of its deep, dark opacity, its haunting mysteriousness, or its role as a symbol of mourning, this gem is a perfect reminder that the death, with all its mystery, is an inescapable part of life. These days, most of us prefer to live in denial of this fact, but, paradoxically, accepting it can bring a lot of depth, richness, and peace to our lives.

The Bottom Line

DEATH
“Make peace with mortality.”

One Or More Of These Messages Are For You

    • Please don’t worry: Pulling this card does not mean that you, or anyone you know, are about to die!
    • You may receive the answers and insights you seek by contemplating your own mortality.
    • Realizing on a deep level that we are all here for just a short time can sharpen our enjoyment of life.
    • By far the biggest regret of the dying is not having had the courage to be true to themselves. Jet can pop up as a reminder to be your most authentic self and follow your own path before it’s too late.
    • You yourself may need to learn to gracefully let go of something you’ve been holding on to for too long.
    • You may soon experience the ending of a project, a relationship, or a cycle of your life.
    • Wise people accept that “nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky” and do their best to gracefully accept loss as a natural and unavoidable part of life.
    • If you’re grieving, know that you’re not alone: Literally every single person who has ever lived on this Earth has experienced loss.
    • You’ll never be the same after a significant loss, but that’s not the same as never being okay again.
