Pumice
Created when magma shoots out of a volcano, flies through the air, and solidifies before it even lands, pumice is like that fun, chaotic friend who flies high and never quite settles down. And, while it may not be able to fly in reality, it’s so filled with frothiness it literally does float! Some pieces can bob along on rivers or oceans for years without sinking! You wouldn’t think a lightweight like this would have many uses, but it’s a prized construction material because it keeps concrete from getting too heavy and makes it a better insulator. We humans have found a more personal use for it too: It makes an excellent foot scrubber! Whether it’s flying through the air, floating down a stream, easing a heavy load, or keeping you light on your feet, pumice is a perfect reminder that sometimes a bit of froth is exactly what the world needs most.
