Is there any blue quite like the blue of a sapphire? Not according to the ancients, who named this variety of corundum after the color itself. Though technically sapphire can be anything from green to purple, orange, yellow, or even colorless, its deep, vivid blue is what we know it for best. Corundum’s other color variety, ruby, is equally famous for its color, but while they might be the same mineral, their meanings could not be more different. Whereas ruby represents the fire and heat of passion, sapphire is all about the heavenly peacefulness of a clear blue sky.
