Schorl, you could say, is the black sheep of its family. A kind of tourmaline, which is a group of minerals famous for their bright, beautiful colors, schorl couldn’t be more richly, deeply, darkly black. Perhaps this is why so many cultures have credited it with magical protective powers; almost as if it has the ability to absorb and neutralize bad energy in the same way black absorbs all color wavelengths of light. Schorl’s magical reputation is definitely bolstered by coming in such cool-looking crystal forms, from tiny sharp needles to large, elongated, deeply striated columns that make it look like a set piece on a Dungeons and Dragon’s campaign. If schorl is coming up for you now, could you use a bit of extra shielding yourself? It certainly couldn’t hurt to do a quick check of your environment and take whatever measures you can to protect yourself and your loved ones from harm.
